Post-Production
Many people wonder what happens to a film after you stop shooting. Okay, maybe everyone knows already but for those who don’t, this is what happens in our program.
After we finished shooting, we had pickup weekends, where we basically shot things that we decided we needed based on the rough cuts that the editors made to make the story feel more full. We got a bunch of exterior shots, title...

History of Pole Dancing
During the course of this documentary, we’ve had many different versions of how pole dancing had started. Some say it started with the may poles, others say it started from the celtic times, some say it started in strip clubs.
Interestingly, I found this link through twitter: The History of Pole Dance - an article by Genevieve Moody from the Flying studio http://bit.ly/cLD81Y

Winding down
We’re finally finished with principal photography!!!!
It just sounds so weird because it seems like we should be filming right now. Instead, I’m sitting at home feeling a little bit of a withdrawal. This is our weekend off and we are back to filming pickups next weekend. Then, it’s spring break, and our final pick up weekend after that.
Our editors are starting to cut some...

Shooting Weekend 4 - interview with Michele Kort
If feminism today means improving the condition of women globally, what role does sexuality have in that? What role could pole dancing as a sport, with all its history and its implied audience, possibly offer in this global struggle?
This past weekend we shot an interview with Michele Kort, senior editor at Ms. magazine. Ms. has been a staple feminist publication since the 70s, and we here at...
Shooting Weekend 3
The weekend before last we shot an interview and went shopping with the lovely Kelly Maglia. She is a costume designer/pole dancer. She gave us great insight into why she thinks pole dancing allows women to be sexually empowered, strong, and thoughtful of it at the same time.
Check out her designs at http://www.kellymagliacouture.com. They are amazing!

Shooting Weekend 2
This weekend was awesome! We got to film at a serene location away from Los Angeles, a nice break from the hustle and bustle of city living. Who would have thought a beautiful salt water lagoon existed in a hidden neighborhood in Playa del Rey?
As always, our lovely cinematographer, Katie, had a vision in her head to create beautiful visuals. She turned this rec room into a cozy living room.

Dressing for the pole...
Today we have been encountering some interesting questions by our faculty and fellow students about our excursions so far into the world of pole. One question keeps coming up, regarding the necessity of dressing in high inch heels and provocative outfits in order to dance. So we’ll put this question out into the blogosphere- how do you feel about the outfits encouraged by the pole dancing...

Shoot Wknd 1: Be Spun & Kelly
This weekend was amazing! It was a treat to meet some of the lovely ladies behind LA’s pole shows.
We first headed over to Be Spun to film their dress rehearsal. We’re grateful that they let us into their lives and get to know all the personalities behind the performances. Some of the stuff they were doing is unheard of!
There were many groups there - from professional pole dancers...

Alethea and Karol at BeSpun
We had such a great time yesterday talking with Alethea Austin and Karol Helms, two amazingly talented pole dancing champs.
Karol is the USPDF East Coast Regionals winner, and Alethea was runner-up and Miss Sexy at the inaugural 2009 USPDF championships.
Besides being stunningly graceful and strong, they’re also super sweet and great to talk to!

Night out at Jumbo's
Last night, a few of our crew members went out to Jumbo’s Clown Room, located conveniently in Thai Town, Los Angeles, CA.
Walking in, I must admit I was a little uncomfortable. Being a woman who had been taught that exposing any body parts for the public would give me a tarnished reputation, I couldn’t help but wonder how these women had the guts to go up there and flaunt their bodies...
