Post-Production

Many people wonder what happens to a film after you stop shooting. Okay, maybe everyone knows already but for those who don’t, this is what happens in our program.

After we finished shooting, we had pickup weekends, where we basically shot things that we decided we needed based on the rough cuts that the editors made to make the story feel more full. We got a bunch of exterior shots, title sequences, and b-rolls for some of our subjects.

After this, the editors worked around the clock to churn out cuts that got screened in front of class, a small group of people who were our “fresh eyes” and they polished it to create the final cut. This is when we picture locked and moved it on to color correction. After two days of color correction, we are finally now in the sound designing stage.

Beginning of May, we will be sound mixing, with all the production sound, sound design, and composed music. Then, when we are sound locked, two days later, we are screening it on May 7th, at 7pm.

This is so exciting! We’re almost done!!!!

History of Pole Dancing

During the course of this documentary, we’ve had many different versions of how pole dancing had started. Some say it started with the may poles, others say it started from the celtic times, some say it started in strip clubs.

Interestingly, I found this link through twitter: The History of Pole Dance - an article by Genevieve Moody from the Flying studio http://bit.ly/cLD81Y

Here is an excerpt:

Originating in the strip clubs of Canada in the 1980s, pole dancing is now being recognised by many as a valid form of dance. It is thought that the chaste Victorians re-branded May pole dancing as something of innocence as previously it had been a pagan fertility dance dating back to the 12th century.(reference1). The origins of Mallakhamb (meaning “man of power” or “gymnasts pole”) which is yoga practiced on a wooden pole and on rope (mainly practiced in India), may date back to 12th century but the discipline is suspected to be formed as recently as 250 years ago. A second discipline directly relating to todays pole dance known as Mallastambha (meaning “gymnasts pillar”) using a mainly iron pole was used by wrestlers to build up strength. Mallastambha seems to be no longer practiced. Today pole Mallakhamb is practiced by men and boys and rope Mallakamb (aka Indian rope trick) is practiced by women and girls. An example of Mallakamb in practice can be seen here.

Winding down

We’re finally finished with principal photography!!!!

It just sounds so weird because it seems like we should be filming right now. Instead, I’m sitting at home feeling a little bit of a withdrawal. This is our weekend off and we are back to filming pickups next weekend. Then, it’s spring break, and our final pick up weekend after that.

Our editors are starting to cut some amazing stuff. This film is going to rock!!!
